Abolish Modern Day Slavery, which is Mass Incarceration
Policy changes and a redistribution of funds from old systems, will be required. This process can begin with addressing the 13th Amendment Slavery Clause and educating the public about the way we are affected daily. The clause can hopefully be revised to reflect the fact that slavery is indeed unconstitutional.
Address Pre - Incarceration, Inmate Recidivism, and Parole/Probation Process
This is the most approachable way of attacking the mass incarceration slavery problem. Areas such as the parole/probation process, education, jobs, housing, and community opportunities will be addressed for Persons convicted of a crime and families as they go through integrating into current society to become a robust and autonomous part of the community.
Address human rights violations in SCDC
For the moment, incarceration is the law, and within the current system, several grievances need a remedy for inmates to be treated like humans and to prepare them to be returned into the community safely. The issues mentioned above are divided into Seven areas: Mental health, Programs, Correctional Officers, Medical Resources, Treatment of Gangs, Food, and Investigation Process. Addressing these issues within the current system will take a therapeutic approach that helps prisoners be better equipped not to become re-offenders and a part of the communities in which they offended. These are current solutions that can benefit inmates today and make way to complete an abolitionist system that will not require incarceration. The answers will also make way for healthier families and communities as robust solutions develop inside and outside prison walls.
